Nuvvon Opens New U.S. Lab to Support Growth and Insource Cell Building

February 3, 2025

Next-Generation Battery Innovator Nuvvon announces new state-of-the-art laboratory in Parsippany, New Jersey.

PRESS RELEASE. PARSIPPANY, NEW JERSEY, FEBRUARY 03, 2025

Nuvvon, an innovator in advanced solid-state battery technologies, has opened a new laboratory in Parsippany, NJ.  This US facility significantly enhances the company’s capabilities to research, develop and build solid-state pouch cells, utilizing novel solid polymer electrolytes to create non-flammable, chemically inert, and safe lithium batteries.

The new facility quadruples existing floorspace, consolidating research, manufacturing and testing activities into one location.  This setup fosters improved communication and productivity, allowing the expanded team to work collaboratively under one roof.  The increased space also facilitates team growth and enhances the throughput of new materials development, cell building and testing, ultimately reducing project lead times and accelerating the company’s growth.  In addition, the dedicated battery technology lab includes state-of-the-art air handling systems, gloveboxes and fume hoods, providing upscaled environmental controls.

“Nuvvon is proud to be a New Jersey-based company that invests in the local economy while delivering safer, higher performance and sustainable battery solutions to the energy sector,” notes Jonathan Lex, Nuvvon Chief Operating Officer.  “By establishing operations domestically, Nuvvon will develop materials that increase the opportunity for a USA-centric supply chain.”

Nuvvon officially opened their new US facility by welcoming investors, partners and members of the local business community, including the Mayor of Parsippany and the Chairman of the Parsippany-Troy Hills Economic Development Committee to their NJ laboratory.

Nuvvon’s research and development are critical for overcoming the current limitations and unlocking the full potential of solid-state battery technology. The larger facility will support upscaling of the solution casting process, building 1-2Ah lithium solid state cells in house and further developing solid-state lithium sulfur cells.

Nuvvon’s solid polymer electrolyte enables the creation of solid-state pouch cells that operate across a wide range of temperatures without the need for cooling, heating or pressure systems.  Unlike conventional lithium-ion batteries that use liquid or gel electrolytes, true solid-state batteries employ solid electrolytes throughout the cell to enhance safety by reducing the risks of flammability, leakage and dendrite formation.

Nuvvon’s flexible solid polymers can be integrated into current power cell designs and production processes, paving the fastest route to next-generation solid-state batteries for various commercial and industrial uses, including electric vehicles, laptops, smartphones, grid storage and military applications.
